Refusing Recognition & Enforcement of an Award
The ease with which awards may be enforced is one of the principal benefits of arbitration. The United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards of 1958, which has been signed by 146 countries to date, is the main tool of enforcement. Under this Convention, the grounds on which recognition and enforcement of an award may be refused reflect the same normal grounds on which an award may be challenged.
